Mount Everest Continues Super Saturday For Connections
Mount Everest (3c Galileo - Six Perfections, by Celtic Swing) continued a super Saturday for Galileo when gaining his first black-type win in the Listed Trigo Stakes at Leopardstown.
While Ballydoyle celebrated a big race double at Ascot with Magical (Galileo) and Kew Gardens (Galileo), progeny of Galileo had taken the first two maidens on the Leopardstown card. Saturday marked a drop back in trip to ten furlongs for Mount Everest, who had finished a close second in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes over a mile as a juvenile, and he was sent off joint-favourite with the experienced Riven Light.
Wayne Lordan rode the bay in mid-division, improving into second entering the final furlong and stayed on well to lead close home, beating Ancient Spirit by a head, as they finished six lengths clear of the field. Lordan afterwards commented, “He did well to chase down the leader. He's missed plenty of time this year and will improve with racing.”
Bred by the Niarchos family, Mount Everest races for Flaxman Stables and Coolmore partners. He is a full-brother to dual Group winner and Group 1 second Yucatan (Galileo), as well as multiple Stakes winner Faufiler. Their dam, Six Perfections, was a top-class miler, notching three Group 1 victories during her ultra-consistent career.
