No Nay Never Colt Justifies Favouritism On Second Start
Never Better (3c No Nay Never – Just Gorgeous, by Galileo) shaped like a progressive type when winning his second start at Kempton on Saturday.
A promising fifth on debut, Roger Varian’s charge was sent off favourite of 12 runners in the novice stakes over seven furlongs. Ridden prominently by Jack Mitchell, he showed signs of inexperience approaching the final furlong and led close home to win by a short head.
“Never Better was a lot more professional this time,” the winning rider said. “He's still very green, but I think he's going to learn with the more racing he does.”
Owned by Apple Tree Stud, Never Better was bred by GSA Bloodstock out of a full-sister to Magical (Galileo). His half-brother by Wootton Bassett sold for 500,000gns last October.
