No Nay Never Colts Complete Smart Double

Sunday saw Catch The Paddy (2c No Nay Never - Pandora’s Box, by Galileo) follow up last month’s maiden victory with another smart success over six furlongs at York.

Runner-up on his first two starts, the Kevin Ryan-trained colt scored by two lengths on the third attempt and was sent off favourite to repeat the feat under Kevin Stott. Chasing the leaders in the early stages, he improved to challenge approaching the two furlong marker and was soon pushed along to lead. Ridden when challenged entering the final furlong, he kept on strongly to score by two lengths, with another four lengths back to the third.

There is plenty to look forward to, according to assistant trainer Adam Ryan, who said, “Catch The Paddy has got a great attitude, he's so laid back. He's got a big frame and he's still got a long way to go, he'll be a nice horse next year.”

Owned by Steve Ryan and bred by Lynch Bages, Catch The Paddy completed the first leg of a double on the day for No Nay Never, with Conflict (3c No Nay Never - Sound Of Guns, by Acclamation) gaining a deserved maiden victory at Salisbury that evening.

Andrew Balding’s charge had finished second on both his previous starts this season and was partnered by Joshua Bryan to go one better in the six furlong contest. The bay made all the running and was ridden approaching the final furlong, from which he ran on strongly. Soon clear, he was eased down close home to win by two lengths and three quarters, with the second finishing 11 lengths clear of the third.

Conflict is owned by Qatar Racing, M Detampel and D Howden, having been purchased by David Redvers as a two-year-old for £220,000. The improving bay was bred by Ballylinch Stud.
