No Nay Never Filly Hits Top Gear In Marygate Stakes
Royal Ascot now beckons for Nymphadora (2f No Nay Never - Bewitchment, by Pivotal) after the Andrew Balding-trained filly impressed in Friday’s Listed Marygate Fillies Stakes at York.
Racing prominently throughout under Jason Watson, the bay made smooth headway to lead her group from two furlongs out and was ridden approaching the final furlong. Driven out, she ran on well to score by a length and a quarter.
“She travelled through like a true star,” the delighted winning jockey later commented. “She's obviously still green, being just her second run. It'll be interesting to see what she can do after today. She gave me a really nice feel.”
The performance earned Nymphadora quotes of 8/1 for the Queen Mary Stakes, and Watson thinks the six furlong trip would suit. “I felt as though there was plenty in the tank pulling up,” he said.
Owned by St Albans Bloodstock, Nymphadora sold for 90,000gns as a foal and proved a profitable pinhook as a 185,000gns yearling. She becomes a 50th Stakes performer by No Nay Never, whose unbeaten juvenile career included wins in the Norfolk Stakes and Prix Morny.
