No Nay Never Filly Lands Group 2 On Trip To France
Shadn (2f No Nay Never - Amethyst, by Sadler’s Wells) added a second Stakes success to her CV when taking the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte on Saturday.
A Listed winner during the summer, she had since finished third on both her starts at Group level, including against the colts in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes. Racing over six furlongs again on Sunday, she raced towards the back of the field under the in-form Pierre-Charles Boudot and produced a challenge from the two furlong marker. She made headway to chase down the leader and favourite Devil approaching the final furlong and dug deep to lead close home, prevailing by a head on the line.
Trained by Andrew Balding for Alrabban Racing, Shadn was bred by Barronstown Stud out of Listed winner Amethyst, herself a sister to King Of Kings.
No Nay Never continues to provide winners day-after-day, with exciting newcomer Yes Always (2f No Nay Never - Flavia Tatiana, by Holy Roman Emperor) becoming the latest at Newcastle on Friday evening.
The Karl Burke-trained bay was bought by owners the Cool Silk Partnersip and agents Stroud Coleman for 160,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale and, as a result, was strongly supported in the market for the six furlong novice stakes. Ben Curtis rode her close to the pace, making headway to lead approaching the final furlong and ran on to score by two lengths with ease.
Bred by Whisperview Trading, Yes Always is a half-sister to the twice Stakes-placed Damselfly (Power).
