No Nay Never Filly Tops Book 1 Opener

A daughter of No Nay Never provided Philip Stauffenberg with a career-best sales result when topping the opening day of the Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale at 825,000gns.

The €260,000 foal boasted obvious appeal on pedigree as a full-sister to Coventry Stakes winner Arizona (No Nay Never) and she lived up to expectations on Tuesday, when Ross Doyle and James Horton gave way to a bidding duel between Juddmonte and Cheveley Park Stud.

The gavel eventually fell in favour of Cheveley Park Stud manager Chris Richardson, standing alongside owner Patricia Thompson, who said, “She was the one we really wanted. She's a beautiful filly. We were looking for a filly for the broodmare band and she was first on the shortlist.”

The filly’s impressive profit eclipsed Stauffenberg’s 2020 highlight at the same sale, where he transformed a €190,000 Wootton Bassett filly into a 600,000gns yearling. On his latest star, he said, “She has size, strength and a wonderful temperament, I just adore her. She was a very good physical as a foal and on top of that she's an outcross for most of the big owner-breeders, and as you saw we ended up with Cheveley Park bidding against Juddmonte.”

The daughter of No Nay Never was bred by Stephen Sullivan out of Lady Ederle, whose previous produce by No Nay Never have both scored at Group/Grade 2 level and been placed at the highest level.

No Nay Never’s other sale of the day was a bay colt out of Group 1 winner Laganore (Fastnet Rock), which was knocked down to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for 475,000gns.
