No Nay Never Newcomer Impresses At The Curragh

Democracy (2c No Nay Never - Ruby Tuesday, by Galileo) shaped like a future Stakes horse when making an impressive debut in Sunday’s two-year-old maiden at the Curragh.

Aidan O’Brien’s representative was sent off the even-money favourite under Wayne Lordan, who rode the bay prominently throughout the six furlong contest. Travelling strongly two furlongs from home, he was pushed to lead approaching the final furlong and ran on well to score by two lengths and three quarters.

“You'd have to be very happy with that on very deep ground,” the winning trainer said after the race. “It was a good education for him, he has plenty of speed and I'd say he's a classy horse.”

O’Brien mentioned the Listed First Flier Stakes as a possible target for Democracy, who is owned by Coolmore partners with Westerberg. Bred by Premier Bloodstock, the son of No Nay Never is a full-brother to last season’s Group 3 winning juvenile Midnight Mile (No Nay Never).

Run Ran Run (3c No Nay Never - Scream Blue Murder, by Oratorio) completed a double on the Curragh card for No Nay Never when justifying favouritism in the six furlong maiden under Andy Slattery.

The Fozzy Stack-trained colt had been narrowly denied on both of his previous starts, including on debut over course and distance, and was ridden prominently on Sunday. The chesnut led approaching the final furlong and was ridden out to deny a late challenge by a nose on the line.
