No Nay Never Sires Saturday Stakes Double
Saturday saw the Chad Brown-trained Nay Lady Nay (4f No Nay Never - Lady Ederle, by English Channel) gain her second Graded success when taking the Matchmaker Stakes at Monmouth Park.
A Grade 2 winner last season, the daughter of No Nay Never was sent off favourite under Paco Lopez for the Grade 3 contest over nine furlongs. Ridden to chase the leaders, she produced her challenge in the straight and squeezed through a narrow gap close home to win by half a length.
Owned by First Row Partners and Hidden Brook Farm, Nay Lady Nay was purchased as a two-year-old for $210,000. Bred by Stephen Sullivan, she is a full-sister to Coventry Stakes winner Arizona (No Nay Never).
Earlier in the day at York, the progressive Moss Gill (4g No Nay Never - Sharaarah, by Oasis Dream) dug deep to win the Listed John Smith’s City Walls Stakes.
Ridden to track the leaders, he made good headway from two furlongs out and was ridden to lead entering the final furlong. The bay held off a strong challenge by Al Raya to win by a short head.
James Bethell trains the winner, who he also owns in partnership with G Van Cutsem. Bred by Camas Park and Lynch Bages, the son of No Nay Never is out of a winning half-sister to smart sprinter Burwaaz.
