Plenty Of Praise For Ten Sovereigns’ Latest Winner
Seamie Heffernan described Black Storm (3g Ten Sovereigns – Active Approach, by New Approach) as ‘a steering job’ after partnering the promising three-year-old to his maiden victory at Dundalk.
The first crop son of Ten Sovereigns won a barrier trial before joining Kevin Coleman, for whom he finished second on debut at Cork last month. He was sent off favourite for Friday’s seven furlong maiden and raced prominently throughout. Ridden to lead inside the final furlong, he ran on well to beat longtime leader Mags (Footstepsinthesand) by a head
“He was a steering job and I enjoy all steering jobs!” said the winning rider. I rode his dad (Ten Sovereigns) a lot and his dad was very weak and then all of a sudden he came right. I think he won three races, including a Group 1, in three weeks.”
“I'd say he is a very nice horse,” the winning trainer added. “He improved from the barrier trial and he improved from the run in Cork.”
As recalled by Heffernan, Ten Sovereigns made a winning debut in a Curragh maiden in late-August and, in the space of a month, impressed in a Group 3 and landed the Group Middle Park Stakes. Later successful in the Group 1 July Cup, he sired 11 blacktype juveniles in his first season at stud, and is now responsible for a total of 18 Stakes horses.
His latest winner is owned by the Roving Swan Partnership and was bred by Old Carhue Stud.
