Malayan (The Gurkha) Wins Her Maiden At Galway

Plenty To Look Forward To With The Gurkha Filly

Malayan (2f The Gurkha - Malayan Mist, by Dansili) made a significant step forward on her second start to lead home a 1-2 for Coolmore sires in Sunday’s seven furlong maiden at the Galway Festival.

Ridden to track the leaders by Colin Keane, the Dermot Weld-trained filly was ridden approaching the final furlong and led close home to score by three parts of a length. Pride Of Derry (Pride Of Dubai) caught the eye when finishing strongly to claim second.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “Malayan came on from a nice first run and I would imagine there is plenty of improvement to come. She could be a nice filly going forward.”

Owned and bred by Lady O’Reilly, Malayan becomes The Gurkha’s third juvenile winner of the weekend.
