Churchill Paddock

Popular Churchill Filly Flying Stateside

A daughter of first season sire Churchill proved an early highlight in Friday’s Arqana Breeze Up Sale when selling to agent Stephen Hillen for £210,000.

After fending off the attentions of Ted Durcan, Hillen signed the docket and said, “She is for Dean Reeves, an American client, to go to Christophe Clement. I’d seen her back over in Ireland; she did a good breeze, she has a big long stride and looks like she’ll go a mile, a mile and a quarter. She’s the one we wanted to get.”

Offered by Mocklershill as Lot 4, the bay paid dividends on her yearling price of €75,000. She is the first foal out of Energie Green, herself a half-sister to a Stakes winner, from the family of Moonlight Cloud.

Robin O’Ryan was also among the purchasers of Churchill’s first crop, going to £85,000 for Lynn Lodge Stud’s colt out of Maelia (Lot 41). Later that afternoon, Jean-Pierre Deroubaix parted with £80,000 for a Churchill filly offered by The Bloodstock Connection as Lot 93.
