Progressive Type Becomes Latest Winner By The Gurkha

Thapa Vc (2g The Gurkha - Merritt Island, by Exceed And Excel) built on earlier promise to get off the mark on his third attempt at Wolverhampton on Friday evening.

Trained by Sir Mark Prescott for owner/breeders Mr and Mrs John Kelsey-Fry, the bay was beaten just a length and a half on debut over six furlongs and stepped up to seven furlongs on his latest start. Racing prominently under David Probert, he was ridden to dispute the lead from two furlongs out and improved to lead inside the final furlong, keeping on to win by half a length.

From the first crop of top-class miler The Gurkha, Thapa Vc becomes the first winner out of his dam, black-type performer Merritt Island.
