Progressive Wootton Bassett Colt Defies Penalty
Zainalarab (3c Wootton Bassett - Zimira, by Invincible Spirit) recorded back-to-back wins when defying a penalty in Saturday’s Novice Stakes at Chester.
The winner of a six furlong maiden last month, Roger Varian’s charge was sent off favourite as he stepped up to an extended seven furlongs. Dane O’Neill positioned the bay towards the back of the field and pushed his mount along to make headway approaching the final furlong. Delivering a challenge inside the final furlong, he soon led and ran on well to win by a length and a quarter, comfortably.
Owned by Shadwell Estate, Zainalarab was bred by Hesmonds Stud out of a half-sister to Group 1 performer Oracle (Danehill Dancer).
