Promising Churchill Colt Follows Up In Style
True Statesman (2c Churchill - True Verdict, by Danehill Dancer) followed up last month’s smart maiden victory with an easy win in Friday’s seven furlong contest at Chester.
Fourth on debut and third next time out, Charlie and Mark Johnston’s charge drew over three lengths clear in a six furlong maiden last month and was sent off favourite at Chester. Chasing the leader under Jason Hart, he was pushed along to quicken from the two furlong pole and was ridden clear approaching the final furlong. Keeping on strongly, he was eased down close home to win by three lengths, with the same distance back to the third horse.
A step up in class may now be on the cards for True Statesman, who is owned by Jane Newett and Dougie Livingston. The son of Churchill was bred by BV Sangster out of the Group-placed Danehill Dancer mare True Verdict.
