Promising Churchill Filly Draws Clear On Return
The well-related True Icon (3f Churchill - Purple Glow, by Orientate) proved a class above her rivals in Saturday’s Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Lingfield.
A promising second in a five furlong maiden on the turf, the William Haggas-trained chesnut was sent off favourite on return, despite having been absent since October. Tracking the leader under Kieran Shoemark, she was pushed along to lead approaching the final furlong and stretched clear to win by three and a quarter lengths.
Owned by Clipper Logistics and bred by Max Ervine, True Icon was purchased as a yearling for 135,000gns. The first crop daughter of Churchill is a sister to the same owner’s dual Stakes winner Main Desire (High Chaparral).
