Promising Mastercraftsman Filly Gains Maiden Victory
The progressive Fedya (3f Mastercraftsman - Pacific Pride, by Storm Cat) gained her first win in taking style on Thursday, as she took the Prix Alfred Audry at Lyon.
A promising fourth on debut in April, she followed up in May with a fine second over a mile and a half and dropped back in trip to 11 furlongs on Thursday. Tracking the leader Subridere for much of the way under Pierre Charles Boudot, the leading pair quickened on the turn for home and rallied up the straight, with Fedya gaining the advantage entering the final furlong. Running on well, she won by a length and a half, with a further five and a half lengths back to the third horse.
The Francois Graffard-trained winner races for owner/breeder Al Shahania Stud and becomes the second winner out of Pacific Pride, a half-sister to Group 2 performer Sir John Lavery (Galileo) and Momentus (Montjeu). The second dam, Race For the Stars, was a dual Stakes winner and is a half-sister to three-time Group 1 winner Hawk Wing.
