Promising Son Of Magna Grecia Gets Off The Mark
Roman Emperor (3g Magna Grecia – Alsaaden, by Acclamation) built on two promising starts to justify favouritism in Saturday’s novice stakes at Southwell.
John Ryan’s charge finished third in a Newbury maiden on debut last summer and enjoyed boosts in form when the winner subsequently gained black-type, while the second and fourth are now rated in the 90’s. The first crop son of Magna Grecia returned to finish second last month and remained over six furlongs on his third start. Chasing the leader under Callum Shepherd, he was ridden to lead inside the final furlong and kept on well to win by a length and three quarters.
Owned and bred by Bb Thoroughbreds, Roman Emperor is a half-brother to useful sprinter Bondi Bay (Australia).
