Promising Son Of Wootton Bassett Impresses On Return
Lord Bertie (3g Wootton Bassett - Bhageerathi, by Motivator) made an impressive return to action on Saturday when running out an unchallenged winner of the mile Novice Stakes at Thirsk.
The William Haggas-trained bay was a promising juvenile, having finished third to Chaldean on debut, before winning a maiden in good style. Sent off favourite on his three-year-old return, he made all of the running under Danny Tudhope and switched to the stands’ side in the straight. His rivals followed and did their best to narrow the gap, but to no avail, as the favourite passed the post 12 lengths clear.
Lord Bertie is owned by Ms Fiona Carmicheal, having been bought by Amanda Skiffington as a yearling for €500,000. The son of Wootton Bassett was bred by Ecurie Peregrine.
