Promising Ten Sovereigns Juvenile Takes Haydock Maiden
Leonardo Dax (2c Ten Sovereigns – Instinctively, by Cape Cross) confirmed the promise shown on debut to take Sunday’s six furlong maiden at Haydock.
The Patrick Owens-trained colt overcame a slow start at Windsor in June, where he finished third to the now 100-rated Rajeko, and faced 11 rivals on his second start. Racing in touch with the leaders, he began to make headway before two furlongs out and was ridden a furlong later. He ran on well close home to win by a length under Hector Crouch, while Zayer (Starspangledbanner) claimed runners-up honours.
Leonardo Dax is owned by Valmont and was bred by Whisperview Trading. The promising juvenile hails from the second crop of Ten Sovereigns, who is responsible for 15 Stakes performers to date.
