Promising Zoffany Colt Goes One Better
Pythagoras (2c Zoffany - Alegra, by Galileo) built on last month’s smart debut performance to take the Figham Maiden Stakes at Beverley on Wednesday.
Beaten just a neck in a similar contest last month, the Richard Fahey-trained bay was sent off favourite for the seven and a half furlong maiden. Andrea Atzeni rode him to track the leader, improving to lead approaching two furlongs out and was ridden out to score in comfortable fashion by a length and three quarters.
Owned and bred by Sir Robert Ogden, Pythagoras is closely related to Listed-winning two-year-old Blue Gardenia (Mastercraftsman). The son of Zoffany’s success bodes well for his yearling full-sister, while Alegra also has a colt foal by Mastercraftsman.
