Return To Stakes Company Planned For Zoffany Filly
The highly-rated Soul Search (3f Zoffany - Ecoutila, by Rahy) did not surprise when justifying short-priced favoritism in the Naas Fillies Maiden on Wednesday.
A narrow second to Love (Galileo) on debut last July, the Ger Lyons-trained filly went on to be placed at Stakes level on three occasions and finished fourth to old rival Love in the Moyglare Stud Stakes. Having made her seasonal return in the Irish 1,000 Guineas, she dropped back to seven furlongs on Wednesday and was ridden in midfield by Colin Keane. Improving from two furlongs out, she kept on well under hands and heels to lead close home, winning by half a length on the line.
Speaking after the race, assistant trainer Shane Lyons said, “She ran well in the Guineas when the ground was a bit quick for her. That was a nice confidence booster and Colin gave her a lovely ride to make it feel like a piece of work. She’s entered in plenty of black type races. Hopefully she will have a bit of luck through the summer.”
Soul Search sold to BBA Ireland for 230,000gns as a yearling and runs in the colours of Newtown Anner Stud Farm. Bred by Marston Norelands and Richmond Bloodstock, the daughter of Zoffany is closely related to Group 3 winner and Prix de la Foret third Surfrider.
