Rock Of Gibraltar Filly Gains Deserved Stakes Success
The Wertheimer brothers’ homebred Matematica (3f Rock Of Gibraltar - Mathematicien, by Galileo) gained a deserved win at Stakes level in Friday’s Listed Prix Matchem at Saint-Cloud.
A close second in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac as a juvenile, she made a winning seasonal return in April and had since been running well in defeat in Group contests. The bay broke well under Olivier Peslier, who steadied her to chase the leaders and was forced to wait as they became short of room in the straight. Switching right to challenge a furlong and a half out, she ran on well to lead inside the final furlong and score by a length and a quarter.
The Carlos Laffon-Parias trained filly is one of three black-type horses out of the Galileo mare Mathematicienne, who comes from the family of Arc winner Solemia. Rock Of Gibraltar, meanwhile, boasts over 130 Stakes winners to his name, including the likes of Society Rock and Mount Nelson.
