Frenchette (The Gurkha) Wins Her Maiden At Longchamp

Rouget Filly Adds To Fine Run For The Gurkha

The Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Frenchette (2f The Gurkha - Miryale, by Anabaa) followed up on a promising debut performance to score at Longchamp on Thursday afternoon.

Third over seven furlongs in August, the Philippe Segalot-owned chesnut was reunited with Coralie Pacaut as she dropped down slightly to six and a half furlongs. Racing at the back of the field, she was pushed along upon entering the straight and switched left for a clear passage two furlongs out. Ridden out, she dug deep to beat the well-bred Signature Song by a short neck on the line.

Rouget, who trained Frenchette’s half-brother Afandem (Zoffany) to win a Listed race and finish third in a Group 1, bought the filly as a yearling for €75,0000. Erwan Robin and Mickael Robin bred the filly from the first crop of The Gurkha, whose daughter Best Of Lips won the Group 3 Preis des Winterfavoriten in fine style last weekend.
