Second Stakes Success For U S Navy Flag Colt
A trip to Royal Ascot may be on the cards for Ocean Vision (3c U S Navy Flag - Balaagha, by Mr Greeley) after the son of U S Navy Flag recorded his second Stakes success in the Listed Prix de Pontarme at Longchamp.
A Listed winner and Group 2 placed as a juvenile, Tim Donworth’s charge earned valuable prize money in the Group 2 Al Rayyan Mile in Doha in February and was last seen winning a competitive conditions race at Chantilly. Dropping back to seven furlongs on Thursday, the bay stalked the pace under Christophe Soumillon and pounced to lead inside the final furlong. Running on well, he led by three parts of a length on the line.
“Tough and consistent” is how Tim Donworth later described Ocean Vision, before revealing his future plans. “I decided to give him a break after his last run as we want to have a horse for the whole season. Now we have the option of the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, or the Group 3 Prix Paul de Moussac, but I’d love to go to Ascot.”
Bred by Mighty Universe Ltd, Ocean Vision is owned by John Kirkland and Mrs G Ryan. He is one of two dual Stakes winners from the first crop of U S Navy Flag, whose Southern Hemisphere crop has also yielded two Group 1 performers.
