Seventh Stakes Win For Son Of Wootton Bassett
Saturday saw Chindit (5h Wootton Bassett - Always A Dream, by Oasis Dream) record his seventh Stakes success, and first in the colours of Villoo Poonawalla Greenfield Farms, in the Group 3 Superior Mile Stakes at Haydock.
Settled towards the back of the field by James Doyle, the Richard Hannon-trained entire quickened turning for home and was ridden to lead from two furlongs out. Drawing clear inside the final furlong, he was eased down close home to beat the favourite by two and a quarter lengths.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “He was right back to his best and looked like the Group 1 horse I think he is. We will certainly look at some nice pots abroad now where there is fast ground. There are lots of options for him, but I'd love to win a Group 1 with him as I know he is that sort.”
Hannon mentioned Australia, Hong Kong and the US as possible destinations for Chindit, who has placed at the highest level on two occasions. Bred by JC Bloodstock and Rory Mahon, the son of Wootton Bassett provides an important update for his full-brother catalogued in next month’s Tattersalls Book 1 Sale.
