Smart Colt Becomes Second Winner By U S Navy Flag
Kaasib (2c U S Navy Flag - Cherished, by Kodiac) became U S Navy Flag’s second winner when producing a smart performance at Salisbury on Wednesday.
The Clive Cox-trained colt shaped with great promise on debut earlier in the month, when beaten just a neck despite clipping heels during the five furlong sprint. Sent off favourite on his second attempt, he raced prominently under Hector Crouch and was asked to quicken two furlongs from home. Asserting inside the final furlong, he was pushed out to score by two lengths.
Bought by his trainer as a yearling for £80,000, Kaasib is owned by Al Mohamediya Racing. The April-born bay becomes the first winner bred by Wardstown Stud out of their homebred mare Cherished.
Kaasib’s win came just eight days after Ocean Vision (U S Navy Flag) made a taking debut in a competitive Dundalk maiden. Their precocity comes as little surprise, given that U S Navy Flag was crowned champion two-year-old following Group 1 wins in the Middle Park and Dewhurst Stakes, the son of War Front being the fastest ever winner of the latter contest.
Like his accomplished full-sister Roly Poly, U S Navy Flag added to his CV as a three-year-old when taking the Group 1 July Cup, at the expense of several top-flight sprinters.
