Smart Fillies Complete Double For Churchill
Taygar (2f Churchill - Leoube, by Kodiac) kicked off a smart double for Churchill on Wednesday when justifying strong market support on debut at Beverley.
Racing over the minimum trip, the Michael Dods-trained filly was ridden towards the back of the field by Connor Beasley and was pushed along from halfway. Making headway approaching the final furlong, she was ridden to lead close home and ran on to score by a length and a half, with another three and a quarter lengths back to the favourite in third.
There should be more to come from Taygar, who despite showing signs of inexperience, clocked a faster time than the second division of the novice stakes. Owned by TG Racing, the daughter of Churchill was bred by Sean Ronan and Caroline Hanly.
At Gowran Park later that afternoon, Snowcapped (3f Churchill - Snow Pixie, by Flower Alley) finished strongly to lead home a 1-2 for her sire in the fillies’ maiden over a mile.
Trained by Jessica Harrington for owner/breeder Anamoine Limited, she showed promise on her sole start as a juvenile and was ridden by Nathan Crosse on her seasonal return. Positioned in midfield, she was asked to quicken approaching the two furlong pole and was switched to the inside to challenge soon after. Ridden approaching the final furlong, she ran on strongly to deny smart newcomer Collage (Churchill) by a head on the line. The winner’s stablemate Paris Review (Zoffany) took third.
