Smart Juvenile Double For Wootton Bassett
Genealogy (2c Wootton Bassett – Musical Art, by Dutch Art) shaped like a Stakes horse when beating the even-money favourite in the mile maiden at Punchestown on Tuesday.
Aidan O’Brien’s charge entered notebooks after his debut second at the Curragh last month, but faced a well-regarded type in Storm Piece on his second start. Racing prominently under Ryan Moore, he ran green in the straight, before running on well under pressure approaching the final furlong. He asserted close home and kept on to beat the favourite by a length and a half, going away.
“Ryan gave him a fantastic ride here from a bad draw,” stable representative Chris Armstrong commented. “He's a massive horse and whatever he does this year will be a bonus. He could be one for the Eyrefield Stakes, or the Criterium de Saint Cloud later in the year.”
Genealogy was sold by breeder Highclere Stud at the Tattersalls Book 1 Sale to MV Magnier and White Birch Farm for 400,000gns.
Tasdeed (3g Wootton Bassett – Seaella, by Canford Cliffs) became their sire’s second maiden winner of the day when making a successful debut at Newcastle.
Trained by Dominic Ffrench Davis for Gary Gillies, the bay faced 11 rivals in the seven furlong maiden and raced in midfield in the early stages. Making headway from over two furlongs out, he led a furlong later and ran on well to beat Trident (No Nay Never) by a length and a half.
The promising three-year-old was bred by Haras Du Cadran out of a half-sister to Group 2 winner Mystery Power (No Nay Never).
