Smart Juveniles Complete Wootton Bassett Double

Daisy Maisy (2f Wootton Bassett - Shasta Daisy, by Champs Elysees) completed the first leg of a smart juvenile double for Wootton Bassett on Thursday when making a winning debut over seven furlongs at Lyon.

Drawn wide, the Yann Barberot-trained bay raced in second for much of the way and was travelling the best of the field as they approached the turn for home. Gregory Benoit asked his mount to quicken two furlongs from home and she ran on well to score by a neck, despite her rivals best efforts.

Owned by Madame Philippe Poulsen-Allaire, Daisy May was bred by Gestut Zur Kuste and sold to her trainer for €240,000 as a yearling.

Later that day at Epsom, Royal Patronage (2c Wootton Bassett - Shaloushka, by Dalakhani) made all to win the seven furlong contest by an impressive five lengths.

Trained by Mark Johnston for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, he was sent off second favourite following a fine second at Sandown last month. Jason Hart took the ride on Thursday and asked his mount to extend his advantage from two furlongs out, the bay soon looking the obvious winner.

Bred by Emma Capon Bloodstock, the son of Wootton Bassett may be seen to even better effect over further, being out of a three-parts sister to Irish Derby third Shalapour.
