Smart Maiden Success For Starspangledbanner Colt

The Eve Johnson Houghton-trained Bhubezi (2c Starspangledbanner - Lulani, by Royal Applause) built on a promising debut to win the six furlong maiden at Chepstow on Saturday.

The chesnut finished fifth behind two subsequent winners at Newbury last month and was sent off favourite on his next start. Racing prominently under Kieran Shoemark, the chesnut led two furlongs from home and kept on well to win by half a length.

Bred by Deodata Blyth-Currie, Bhubezi is owned by Mr and Mrs James Blyth-Currie. The son of Starspangledbanner is the first foal out of Lulani and comes from the family of dual Guineas victor Cockey Rebel.
