Open Market (Starspangledbanner) Wins On Debut At Cork

Smart Newcomer Becomes Latest Winner By Starspangledbanner

The well-related Open Market (2f Starspangledbanner - Market Hill, by Danehill) made a smart start for connections in Wednesday’s five furlong maiden at Cork.

Trained by Paddy Twomey for owner/breeder Newtown Anner Stud Farm, she travelled strongly throughout under Billy Lee and gained a narrow advantage at halfway. Pushed along, she kept on well inside the final furlong to win by three parts of a length.

“We worked her once or twice and she showed us plenty,” Twomey said after the race. “She has natural ability and we haven't done that much with her.”

The daughter of Starspangledbanner is a full-sister to Great Wide Open (Starspangledbanner), who finished second in the Grade 1 Turf Mile.
