Unreasonable (No Nay Never) Wins On Debut At Cork

Smart Newcomer Kicks Off No Nay Never Double

The well-related Unreasonable (2f No Nay Never - Silent Thoughts, by Galileo) shaped like a smart prospect when making a winning debut in the fillies’ maiden at Cork on Wednesday.

Joseph O’Brien’s representative raced in touch for much of the mile contest and was shaken up by Dylan Browne McMonagle after the three furlong pole. Ridden approaching the final furlong, she ran down her rival to lead by a head on the line, with another three lengths and three quarters back to the favourite in third.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “She was still green when I initially went for her but I liked the way she hit the line. She has been showing us plenty at home and I think she is a really nice filly going forward.”

Owned by Newtown Anner Stud, the 375,000gns yearling buy kicked off a juvenile double on the card for breeder Barronstown Stud and sire No Nay Never, with The Caribbean (2c No Nay Never - Shermeen, by Desert Style) later taking the Irish EBF Rated Race.

Aidan O’Brien’s charge won a six furlong maiden earlier this season and stepped up to seven furlongs for the first time on Wednesday. Ridden prominently by Seamie Heffernan, he dug deep in the closing stages to deny the favourite by a head, with the pair rallying three lengths clear of the third.

Ballydoyle representative Chris Armstrong later revealed that the Listed Star Appeal Stakes is a possible target for The Caribbean, who is owned by Coolmore partners and Westerberg.

Hamlet (3g No Nay Never - Pandora, by Galileo) completed the first leg of a treble on the day for No Nay Never when making a winning debut at Southwell.

John Quinn's newcomer overcame a slow start to lead from the second furlong and boasted a clear advantage with three furlongs left to race. Ridden approaching the final furlong, he kept on well under Gianluca Sanna to deny the favourite by a neck.

Hamlet was bred by Sir Robert Ogden out of the black-type Galileo mare Pandora, who has a Mastercraftsman filly in next month’s Tattersalls October Book 1 Sale.
