Smart Starspangledbanner Filly Makes It Two From Three
Papilio (2f Starspangledbanner - Glafyra, by High Chaparral) may have earned a return to Stakes company after making a successful step up in trip at Killarney on Wednesday.
The Fozzy Stack-trained filly shaped like a smart prospect on debut when winning over six furlongs at the Curragh, and stepped up to a mile on her third start. Ridden to race prominently by Danny Gilligan, the daughter of Starspangledbanner was pushed along to challenge a furlong from home and soon led. She ran on well to win by a length, with Greenland (Saxon Warrior) taking second.
“Papilio did it well and is a nice filly,” Stack said after the race. “We might go for the Flame Of Tara Stakes next.”
Bred by Scea Marmion and Mrs A Jathiere, Papilio is owned by Mrs MV Magnier, Mrs Paul Shanahan and TV Magnier. The daughter of Starspangledbanner provides an important update for her yearling sister by Ten Sovereigns, who sells at Arqana next month.
