Son Of Churchill Scores On Second Start
Maso Bastie (2g Churchill - Opportuna, by Rock Hard Ten) built on a promising debut to justify favouritism in Wednesday’s Novice Stakes at Lingfield.
James Fanshawe’s charge caught the eye when finishing fourth in a seven furlong maiden last month and stepped up to a mile on his second start, with William Buick taking the ride. Racing in touch with the leaders, he was pushed along from the three furlong pole and came under further pressure a furlong later. Running on well inside the final 110 yards, he led on the line to win by a short head.
Maso Bastie is owned by Mrs AM Swinburn and was bred by Chasemore Farm.
