Son Of Galileo Astounds In Beresford Stakes

High Definition (2c Galileo - Palace, by Fastnet Rock) shot to the top of the Derby betting when flying home to win Saturday’s Group 2 Beresford Stakes at the Curragh.

Successful over course and distance on debut last month, the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was sent off favourite to remain unbeaten. He broke from the widest stall, soon racing on the inner under Seamie Heffernan and was second last turning for home. Picking off his rivals one-by-one in the straight, the son of Galileo displayed a tremendous stride passing Monaasib close home and won by three parts of a length on the line.

There is much to look forward to from the winner, as his trainer knows. “High Definition is a big-striding horse and one that is really one to look forward to,” O’Brien said. “You think he's not going to get there and then he's there. He's a big horse and we'll probably put him away for next season. He could be a horse that could start off in a Guineas next year.”

Owned by Coolmore partners and Anne Marie O’Brien, High Definition repeats his full-brother’s success in the Beresford Stakes just last year, with Innisfree going on to finish second in the Group 1 Futurity Trophy. The sons of Galileo were bred by Whisperview Trading out of homebred Listed winner Palace (Fastnet Rock).
