Son Of Mastercraftsman Wins Ebor Trial
Lynwood Gold (5g Mastercraftsman - Witch Of Fife, by Lear Fan) produced a smart staying performance to land Friday’s Ebor Trial at the Curragh.
Settled to chase the leaders by Tom Madden, Jessica Harrington’s charge was pushed along from three furlongs out and improved to lead a furlong later. Staying on well under pressure, he won by a length on the line, with another half a length back to Grandmaster Flash (Australia) in third.
The winning trainer said after the race, “Lynwood Gold is a good stayer, and he likes that bit of ease in the ground. I'm delighted with that as he'd been threatening to do it. I thought the second horse was going to go past him but he put his head down and came back at him.”
Harrington added that the Cesarewitch is a likely aim for Lynwood Gold, who runs in the colours of Carmel Acheson. The son of Mastercraftsman was bred by Epona Bloodstock and is closely related to Group 3 winner Drumfire (Danehill Dancer). Their half-sister Cabaret (Galileo) was also a Group 3 winner, but is perhaps best known as the dam of top-class miler Magna Grecia.
