Son Of Starspangledbanner Goes One Better In Naas Maiden
Cavallo Pazzo (3g Starspangledbanner - Monaleen, by High Chaparral) took another step forward on Sunday to take the six furlong maiden at Naas under Dylan Browne McMonagle.
The Eoin Doyle-trained bay finished a promising fourth to Gobi Star (Starspangledbanner) in September and progressed to be beaten just a head last time out. Sent off favourite at the weekend, he raced prominently throughout and was ridden to lead after the two furlong pole. Clear inside the final furlong, he kept on well to beat Diamondsinthesand (Footstepsinthesand) by a length and a quarter.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “He's a nice horse, he has plenty of ability, and he's learning everyday. He's a big horse and has to fill his frame, I think he'll be a lot stronger next year.”
The son of Starspangledbanner becomes the first winner bred by Michael Morrissey out of the useful Monaleen (High Chaparral), who has a yearling filly by Zoffany.
