Son Of Starspangledbanner Sparkles On Debut
Rough Diamond (3g Starspangledbanner - Good To Follow, by Kyllachy) created a smart impression on debut when taking Saturday’s six furlong maiden at the Curragh.
Trained by breeder Edward Lynam for owner Trevor Dalzell, the bay raced in midfield under Mark Enright and was pushed along entering the final furlong. Quickening home strongly, he made good headway to lead close home and won by three parts of a length from the favourite Na Blianta Beo.
There should be more to come from Rough Diamond, according to Lynam, who said, “He's never been away from home and has never been on grass. He could be interesting. He was very green but he quickened up well.”
The son of Starspangledbanner is closely related to useful sprinter Tide Of Time (Choisir) and is out of a half-sister to the dam of champion sprinter Slade Power.
