Drombeg Banner (Starspangledbanner) Wins His Maiden At Cork

Son Of Starspangledbanner Takes Maiden In Style

Connections have big hopes for Drombeg Banner (2g Starspangledbanner - Drombeg Dawn, by Orpen) after Ken Condon’s charge ran out an impressive winner of Saturday’s five furlong maiden at Cork.

Ridden to make all by Niall McCullagh, he was the last to come off the bridle and quickened with admirable ease. Ridden out, he won by a length and a quarter in comfortable fashion.

There is plenty more to come from the winner, according to his trainer, who said, “He has a big frame, has scope and has a bit of talent, which compensated for a little lack of maturity. Niall (McCullagh) was nicely impressed and I think he can makes Stakes level.”

Owned by Cian McAuliffe, the son of Starspangledbanner was bred by Philip McAuliffe out of Drombeg Dawn, who they raced to win the Irish Lincolnshire.
