Son Of Wootton Bassett Battles For Fifth Stakes Success
Saturday saw Chindit (4c Wootton Bassett - Always A Dream, by Oasis Dream) record his fifth Stakes success when running out a game winner of the Group 2 Summer Mile Stakes at Ascot.
Leading under Pat Dobbs, the Richard Hannon-trained bay was headed when ridden approaching the final furlong. Digging deep under pressure, he ran on to regain the advantage close home and denied the favourite by a head on the line.
Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “He had plenty in the tank and I always thought he'd get ten furlongs. He's always been a solid horse and once he gets fast ground, he runs to form.”
Successful at Listed and Group 2 level as a juvenile, Chindit won another Group race as a three-year-old and is now twice a Stakes winner this season. Owned by Michael Pescod, the Group 1 placed son of Wootton Bassett was bred by JC Bloodstock and Rory Mahon.
