Son Of Zoffany Goes One Better At Newmarket
Mrs Fitri Hay’s homebred Bonnyrigg (2c Zoffany - Impressionist Art, by Giant’s Causeway) built on a promising debut to win the six furlong maiden at Newmarket on Friday.
Second to Jimmy Sparks (Zoffany) over course and distance earlier in the month, the Andrew Balding-trained colt was sent off favourite under James Doyle. Racing prominently, the bay was asked to quicken from the two furlong marker and ran on well under pressure inside the final furlong. Leading close home, he won by a neck from Majd Al Arab (The Gurkha).
There could be more to come from Bonnyrigg in the future and over farther distances, with his half-sister Jasmine Blue (Galileo) having gained black-type over ten furlongs. Their dam is a half-sister to the dam of top-class miler Roderic O’Connor (Galileo).
