Son Of Zoffany Remains Unbeaten With Ease
Impressive maiden winner Simsir (3g Zoffany - Simawa, by Anabaa) swooped late to land the feature race at Dundalk on Friday evening in the colours of owner/breeder, His Highness The Aga Khan.
Sent off favourite under Ronan Whelan, the Michael Halford-trained bay was ridden patiently and was travelling well in the straight. Switched right to challenge entering the final furlong, he quickened well to score by three parts of a length in comfortable fashion.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “Simsir travelled like a nice horse the whole way and Ronan said he gave him a lovely feel. He picked up well and he was still just a bit green.”
The Aga Khan homebred is a half-brother to Listed-winning stayer Silwana (Peintre Celebre), recent Group 2 second Sinawann and Derby Trial runner-up Summaya. Simsir continues a fine season for Zoffany, who commands €25,000 at Coolmore Stud.
