Sottsass Filly Outclasses Rivals

Modern Utopia (2f Sottsass – Sobel Baillie, by Lomitas) gained her maiden win in fine style on Wednesday, as she ran out a clearcut winner at Nottingham.

The George Scott-trained filly had shown promise behind some useful rivals and stepped up to an extended mile for the first time on Wednesday. Settled towards the back of the field by Darragh Keenan, the chesnut was last off the bridle, cruising into contention with two furlongs left to race. Shaken up to lead approaching the final furlong, she ran on well to score by four and a quarter lengths, eased down.

Airlie Stud and Flaxman Stables’ homebred becomes the latest winner by freshman sire Sottsass. The Arc hero is also responsible for the highly-rated Ascot winner Law Of Design, Jean-Claude Rouget’s impressive newcomer Ultrafragola and Chad Brown’s well-supported maiden winner Toodelirious.
