South African Stakes-Winner for Rock of Gibraltar

The Scottsville meeting in South Africa on Sunday saw the Listed Michael Roberts Handicap won by Australian bred Royal Zulu Guard (5g Rock of Gibraltar x Ceol Na Sraide, by King's Theatre).

Prepared by Duncan Howells, the son of Rock of Gibraltar  took the 1750 metre contest by a length and three-quarters, his overall record now four wins and nine placings from 22 starts.

Royal Zulu Guard was a $62,500 Magic Millions Weanling Sale purchase for World Wide Bloodstock from the draft of Glastonbury Farm.

He is a sibling to Group III winner The Voice and stakes-placed Rock Band being one of four winners from Ceol Na Sraide (IRE), a half-sister by King’s Theatre to Group III winner Al Samer from the family of Caulfield Cup winner Diatribe and champion sire Danehill.

Royal Zulu Guard is the 98th stakes-winner worldwide for Rock of Gibraltar, who shuttled to Australia regularly at the start of his stud career and is now based permanently in Ireland.
