Speedy Stakes Winner By Magna Grecia
The highly-rated Myconian (2c Magna Grecia - Sirici, by Choisir) provided first season sire Magna Grecia with Stakes success on Sunday when justifying favouritism in the Listed Prix Yacowlef at Deauville.
The Amy Murphy-trained colt made a perfect start for connections when winning a Saint-Cloud maiden early in the season and was last seen finishing a fine sixth in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot. Remaining over the minimum trip on Sunday, he was ridden to chase the leader by Aurelien Lemaitre and was shaken up two furlongs from home. Running on well to lead upon entering the final furlong, he kept on well to deny Salva Mea (Wootton Bassett) by a head, as the pair drew two and a half lengths clear of the third.
Owned by Daniel Macaulifee and Anoj Don, Myconian was bred by Lisbrook out of Sirici (Choisir). He hails from the first crop of top-class miler Magna Grecia, who has also been represented by smart debut winner Ms Brightside, dual winner Vento Da Sud and debut scorer Mister Salvo.
