Starspangledbanner All The Rage At Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale

The progeny of Starspangledbanner were in high demand at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale, where prices of £300,000 and £270,000 contributed to an impressive average of £187,000.

Oak Tree Farm’s best result of the sale was selling their Starspangledbanner colt to Blandford Bloodstock’s Richard Brown for £300,000. The April-born chesnut was bred by the late Lady O’Reilly out of a three-parts sister to Listed Derby Trial victor Kilimanjaro (High Chaparral).

Kevin Coleman was another consignor with reason to celebrate as his Slievebrook House Stud sold a Starspangledbanner filly to Godolphin for £270,000. Anthony Stroud provided the final bid, and later said, “She’ll go to Charlie Appleby. Her sire is a very good sire of fillies. She moved very well and she recorded a good time, and she had a lot of credentials for what we required.”

The agent is no stranger to success with Starspangledbanner fillies, having purchase Group 2 Rockfel Stakes heroine Carla’s Way (Starspangledbanner) at the 2023 renewal.

Meanwhile, the delighted consignor said, “I’ve always thought a lot of her. She had a good update on the page, she’s by the right sire and has a great action. She did a very good breeze and showed very well so all the right people were on her. I hope to God she turns up at Royal Ascot and is competitive.”

Coleman added that he came to Doncaster with high expectations. “We were confident she’d do one of the top breezes here because she’s been working all over the horses she’s worked with at home. She does her work in a rhythm so we were confident she’d do a good time. Michael Hussey was very confident after he pre-breezed her.”

The daughter of Starspangledbanner also enjoyed a timely update when her half-brother Deira Mile (Camelot) impressed on his seasonal return. Rated 109 before that performance, the Group 1 Futurity Trophy fourth is expected to contest the Epsom Derby.
