Starspangledbanner Colt Delivers On Debut
State Of Rest (2c Starspangledbanner - Repose, by Quiet American) emerged as a potentially exciting two-year-old when making a winning debut at Fairyhouse on Monday.
Racing over six furlongs, the Joseph O’Brien-trained colt was held up by Declan McDonogh and improved on the outside to lead entering the final furlong. Driven out, he held off the short-priced favourite Giorgio Vasari by half a length on the line, with the front pair drawing clear of the third.
The debut win seemed to come as no surprise to assistant trainer Brendan Powell, who commented after the race, “State Of Rest is one we have always liked at home, he had been working nicely. Declan said he was tough and all he can do is improve. He's a big horse and he has a future.”
Owned by the Long Wait Two Partnership, State Of Rest was a 60,000gns yearling purchase by his trainer and Aiden O’Ryan. Bred by Tinakill Bloodstock, the son of Starspangledbanner becomes the first winner out of the mare Repose and provides a nice update for her yearling filly by Australia.
