Papilio (Starspangledbanner) Makes A Winning Debut At The Curragh

Starspangledbanner Filly Impresses On Curragh Debut

Papilio (2f Starspangledbanner - Glafyra, by High Chaparral) will target Stakes races after making a bright start to her career in Friday’s six furlong maiden at the Curragh.

The Fozzy Stack-trained newcomer was positioned in midfield by Wayne Lordan and was pushed along to make headway before the two furlong pole. Ridden to lead a furlong from home, she ran on well to score by a length and three quarters, as Apache Outlaw (Churchill) finished second.

Speaking after the race, Stack said, “She's a nice filly and she wasn't getting any fillies allowance there. She has a great mind and does everything very straight-forward. We could probably look at the Silver Flash or the Balanchine Stakes back here.”

Owned by Mrs MV Magnier, Mrs Paul Shanahan and TV Magnier, Papilio becomes the first winner bred by Scea Marmion and Mr A Jathiere out of the High Chaparral mare Glafyra. Glafyra has a yearling filly from the first crop of Ten Sovereigns.
