Aristia (Starspangledbanner) Wins The Fillies Maiden At Newbury

Starspangledbanner Filly Joins Illustrious Honour Roll

The Richard Hannon-trained Aristia (3f Starspangledbanner - Aloisi, by Kalanisi) announced herself as an exciting prospect when flying home to win Friday’s fillies’ maiden at Newbury.

The ten furlong contest boasts an impressive honour roll including Dancing Rain, Star Catcher and Lah Ti Dar, with the latter’s full-sister sent off favourite for the latest running. The market leader looked the likely winner two furlongs out, extending her advantage as Aristia became short of room, but once a gap appeared, Sean Levey’s mount ran home strongly. Despite showing signs of inexperience, she prevailed by a neck on the line.

Aristia is owned by Elizabeth Roberts, whose racing manager Will Edmeades later commented, “She was always a nice classy filly. She hasn't got any fancy entries but we might be making some now. We might think about the ten-furlong Listed race at the Lockinge meeting.”

An 85,000gns yearling purchase by Will Edmeades Bloodstock, the daughter of Starspangledbanner was bred by Rathasker Stud.
