Sluice (Starspangledbanner) Wins On Debut At Down Royal

Starspangledbanner Filly Justifies Support On Debut

The Joseph O’Brien-trained Sluice (2f Starspangledbanner - Song Maker, by Oasis Dream) produced a smart debut performance to win Monday’s fillies’ maiden at Down Royal.

The daughter of Starspangledbanner was sent off second favourite for the seven furlong contest following her win in a barrier trial at Dundalk. Ridden prominently by Declan McDonogh, she was switched out to challenge three furlongs from home and was pushed along to lead a furlong out. Running on well under pressure, she led by a length and a half on the line.

Representing the winning stable, Sean Corby said, “She picked up well up the straight and won nicely. Declan was happy with her so she should be a nice filly going forward.”

Sluice is owned by Orchardstown Farms and was bred by James Hanly.
